Thomas Rodney Hope Davenport

“In 2016, I was approached by Betty Davenport to produce a book on the life and history of Thomas Rodney Hope Davenport, born 1926, for his 90th birthday. It was with regret that Rodney died before he could see the completed work. It was however finalised with a chapter covering a number of obituaries from family, friends and associates." Rodney was the professor for history at the University of Cape Town and had been studying and lecturing at universities in South Africa, the UK and America. He was a well-known personage in South Africa – especially during the apartheid period when he was involved during the trial of Nelson Mandela. the ‘great man’.

“The book covers his struggle in presenting the concept of equality of all peoples to the apartheid regime.”
